Yahoo! Account Deleted; But I Do Miss Its News Aggregation

I decided to delete my Yahoo! account today, rather than on July 15, as previously noted.

It appears everyone has pretty much switched over to my new gmail address (at least, the non-spammers have made the switch), and in all honesty, I see no more reason to stick around on Yahoo!.

Well, that’s not entirely true. I like Yahoo!’s news aggregation more than I like iGoogle’s system. While iGoogle has very handy widgets, especially those which integrate its applications, Yahoo! does a much better job of displaying news and letting me control what I see.

I suppose I could stop whining and make an iGoogle news aggregation widget that displays what I want, as I want — it just requires picking out a few RSS feeds and applying some XSL to them, after all.

Besides, prettier news stories aren’t nearly enough to win me back over to Yahoo!. My account is gone and I’m not coming back (and, unlike a Brett Favre retirement, you can bank that statement).

When I quit working for an hourly wage, Dilbert stopped being a documentary and started being a comic strip. I have found similar serenity in leaving behind the Answers bacchanal. While working a day job and participating in Answers helped me get where I am now, it’s clear we’re all better off heading in opposite directions.
